  • Our practice does not participate in any health insurance or managed care company plans, including Medicare.  As such, we suggest that you contact your insurance company to find out what your deductible and co-payment are for “out-of-network mental health services for a psychologist or clinical social worker.”  Often, insurers will pay a certain percentage of what is “reasonable and customary” after you meet your deductible (but not for Medicare or Medicaid).

It may be helpful for you to ask what the term “reasonable and customary” means as it relates to a 90791 code (initial evaluation, mental health, outpatient), and a 90834 code (an individual, outpatient, therapy session) for a NJ licensed psychologist or a NJ licensed clinical social worker, depending on your assigned therapist. If you are receiving telehealth services, a GT code may be included in those categories.  This will help you understand how much your insurance company will ultimately reimburse you, and what your out of pocket expenses will be before you begin treatment.

  • As with all therapists, our office is HIPAA-compliant.  When you come to see us in therapy, our relationship and what is discussed in session is kept in the strictest confidence.

This confidence is maintained under all circumstances, though cases are discussed among the clinical staff in case review meetings to ensure a high quality of care. Exceptions include when we believe that you or someone else may be put at risk if we do not break confidentiality, as psychologists are mandated reporters.

If we believe that there is a possibility that you or someone else may be in danger, such as when there exists the potential for suicidal or homicidal behavior, or a minor or elderly person is at risk for abuse, then we may contact whomsoever we feel is appropriate to protect those that require protection.  Furthermore, under certain extreme conditions, a court may request client records.  These cases are handled very carefully, and under no condition would information be provided without your prior knowledge unless circumstances make that impossible.
