Externs

Stress and Anxiety Services of NJ (SASNJ) is excited to offer an especially reduced fee for therapy, allowing us to service a population that previously could not afford the kinds of specialty treatment that we provide. The fees for weekly therapy sessions costs only about 35% of what our licensed psychologists typically charge.

We have accomplished this by having Psychology Externs join our clinical staff for a contracted period of time. We at SASNJ are very particular about who we take on in this capacity to join our very specialized practice. These "psychologists-in-training" are in their third, fourth or fifth year of a doctoral level clinical psychology graduate program that has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). As early career professionals finishing up their clinical psychology graduate programs, these clinicians come to us already having had considerable clinical experience in treating the very specific psychological problems that we specialize in at SASNJ. Also, they have already been trained in the very specific treatment protocols that we utilize in therapy. Only those who meet these stringent criteria are accepted into our clinical practice.

Psychology Externs work under the close supervision of one or more of the licensed psychologists on our clinical staff. They are limited to seeing only ten client hours a week, and get at least two hours of clinical supervision from our licensed psychologists,  guaranteeing that your treatment receives constant input and guidance from seasoned professionals.

New Jersey’s Board of Psychological Examiners, the governing entity for psychologists in this state, has regulated that advertising individual Psychology Externs is not permitted. As such, our Externs are not represented specifically on this website. However, we at SASNJ feel very strongly about the quality and professional skills of these "psychologists-in-training."

Many clients prefer to see Psychology Externs, not only because of the lower fee, but also because they see the benefit of having the input of two therapists - a Psychology Extern and a supervising Licensed Psychologist who is closely overseeing their case.
