This one hour presentation will provide an overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), including the seven essential elements of treatment as explained by the “hexaflex” and how they can be integrated into exposure therapy for anxiety and/or OCD. Specifically, participants will learn about the concepts of acceptance, defusion, self-as-context, contact with the present moment, values, and committed action. Additionally, the presentation will teach participants how to integrate these concepts into their current usage of exposure therapy.
Participants will gain an understanding of the key concepts of ACT, and how to use components such as values to increase the overall effectiveness of treatment. Participants will learn specific, pragmatic approaches that are grounded in ACT to help clients who are “stuck” and struggling with traditional exposure therapy. Participants will also have time to ask questions related to concepts of specific cases they are working on.
